PBIS Program
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Hemlock Elementary School-Wide Behavior Expectations and PBIS Contract
Hemlock Elementary School is proud to participate in an important district initiative called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a school-wide system designed to improve our ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students, in all environments—including the classroom, cafeteria, playground, restrooms/hallways, library, office, and other common areas. As part of our commitment to creating a safe and productive learning environment, we are dedicated to fostering a positive school culture where all students can learn and thrive.
At the heart of our PBIS framework are three school-wide expectations that guide student behavior across all settings:
-
Be Respectful
-
Be Responsible
-
Be Safe
These expectations create a common language for behavior and support a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for students and staff. All students will be explicitly taught what these expectations look like in different areas of the school and will practice them throughout the school year.
Hemlock Elementary has adopted a unified set of classroom and school rules aligned with these three core expectations. These rules are clearly posted in every area of the school, and your child will be learning them consistently. As a staff, we are committed to:
-
Identifying and teaching expected behaviors
-
Reinforcing and rewarding positive behaviors with Husky Bucks or other means
-
Applying consistent and meaningful consequences when expectations are not met
This approach helps ensure a positive, safe, and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and students can do their best learning.

We appreciate your partnership in helping all Hemlock Elementary students succeed!
The Hemlock Elementary Student Support Form was developed by our PBIS Committee as a proactive tool to address more serious student behaviors at the administrative level. This form provides a structured and consistent way for staff to document concerns, outline interventions, and communicate clearly with families about how behaviors are being addressed moving forward.
Any staff member may complete a Student Support Form when a student requires additional support beyond typical classroom interventions. The purpose of this process is to ensure that students receive timely, appropriate support while also keeping parents/guardians informed and involved.
This form is part of our commitment to preventative discipline. By identifying concerns early and implementing meaningful supports, we aim to help students reflect, grow, and make positive choices. Our goal is to reduce the need for more serious consequences such as district referrals or suspension by addressing behaviors in a supportive, solution-focused way.
Through this process, Hemlock Elementary continues to prioritize a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students.
